William Reed Liggin: Tips to Master the Improve Class
As a retired
actor and comedienne, William Reed Liggin has spent many years in the
performance industry. His retirement opened up an opportunity for him to expand
his passion for theatrics into a new arena as an acting coach. In this role, he
has been able to help countless industry hopefuls learn the skills they need to
make their way into the acting field. Here, he provides two key tips to help
you succeed and get the most from your acting class.
First, you
must volunteer in class. Actors are inherently extraverted individuals. They
must be able to stand in front of others, act out alternative personalities,
and constantly push themselves past their comfort zone. If you are going to
become a successful actor, start getting comfortable fast. Use the opportunity
for feedback not only from your instructor, but from your peers as well. The
more you condition yourself to the experience, the more of a professional you
will become.
Secondly,
attend your teacher’s comedy shows outside of class. Your instructor is a
member of the performance community. Use their connections to help you succeed.
Acting and comedy is often about who you know, and if you are just starting out
that is not too many people. Use the opportunity to see your teacher practice
what they preach and maybe you will be able to rub elbows with a few of the
elite in the meantime.
WilliamReed Liggin has seen
more than his fair share of industry hopefuls. Using these suggestions may just
be the tipping point for your career’s success.
